Pre-Game: DDC: Match 2 v Houston

By Brendan "Dr. Voice" Wyatt

It’s game two for the Rapids in the Desert Diamond Cup as they face off against Houston tonight at 7pm.  The first thing we can hope for is a better stream of the match.  The second thing we can hope for is that Marco Pappa gets some minutes.  Although Shkelzen Gashi is in Tucson, as I stated in the podcast we would be happy to see him get minutes on Wednesday.

While the Dynamo hasn’t played a game like match since February 9th, the Rapids had one on Wednesday.  It was a loss that was hard on some fans, but it was most likely going to end up that way when your sole focus of the game was to see how you bounce back from adversity.  Houston may be a little flat when you think about the fact our boys just came off the pitch a few days ago.

We have no way of knowing what tactic, or what the goal will be for this game, but we should be aware and ready for a scrimmage like result.  Fitness and functionality are the focus for the burgundy boys this preseason, so we shouldn’t expect much other than that. Guys will be getting time to work with other guys; chemistry will also be looked at with a close eye.

As we get closer to March 6th, we will start to see the pieces come together.  After all, building a good sports team no matter the sport is a bit like a million piece puzzle; we will only see chunks of the final product for what could be a season, or more.

So let’s not go into tonight’s match thinking “we have to win”, save that mentality for the home opener.  Let’s go into tonight’s match with the mindset of the coaching staff.  Who on an individual level has stepped up and shown that he WANT’S to be here?  There are a good number of guys who haven’t yet got a contract so this is the time we should see the separation between who will be staying and who may be unemployed.

As far as the predicted lineup goes, I think it will most likely look like it did when the match begun on Wednesday. Yes, it's been said that the results don't always matter but it would be nice to talk about a win.

MacMath, Hairston, Sjoberg, Burling, Burch, Watts, Azira, Solignac, Powers, Pappa, Doyle.
